Shopping in Huatulco consists of a myriad of small stores, markets and sidewalk/beachside vendors. As someone described it, "there's plenty, but like the changing face of "Huatulco" so do the Huatulco shops".
You may want to search out regional specialties, which include embroidered blouses and dresses, barro negro pottery, made from dark clay exclusively found in the Oaxacan region.
Tangolunda has a few stores in Plaza las Conchas that sell the essentials (insect repellent, film, suntan lotion) as well as jewelry, clothing and souvenirs. Many of the larger hotels have gift shops, but prices are higher than at their counterparts in La Crucecita. Listed below are some of the main stores that we recommend.
La Crucecita
For a better selection of goods head to La Crucecita, where you'll find a large market that sells silver, pottery, souvenirs, clothing and crafts. In addition to the market, there are stores around the plaza that sell similar merchandise.
Santa Cruz Crafts Market
Just across from the main plaza is the "Mercado de Artesanias" where you can find amazing handicrafts. Shopping here includes the chance to purchase a variety of silver, souvenirs, pottery, clothing and other Mexican goods.
El Museo de las Artesanias
If you have time to shop in only one store in La Crucecita, head to "El Museo de las Artesanias" to get an excellent overview of Oaxacan handicrafts. In addition to selling handmade items, there are displays describing, how the items are made, the history behind the process and biographies of some of the craftspeople. The shop specializes in masks, leather, embroidered textiles and other items made only in the state of Oaxaca.
Sheraton Hotel
This hotel has a good folk-art store. You should visit it and take home a piece of Oaxaca's culture.
